About the model
The first-generation BMW 4 Series (F32/F33/F36) arrived in 2013, splitting two-door models away from the 3 Series lineup. The range featured a two-door coupe, a hardtop convertible, and a five-door Gran Coupe liftback. Power came from turbocharged petrol and diesel engines mated to manual or automatic gearboxes, with rear-wheel drive or xDrive all-wheel drive. A mid-cycle update introduced revised suspension settings and full LED lighting.
The second generation (G22/G23/G26), introduced in 2020, retained the coupe, convertible, and liftback bodystyles, with the convertible switching back to a soft fabric roof. Built on an updated architecture, it gained increased torsional rigidity, a wider rear track, and a prominent vertical kidney grille design.
Powertrains across the second generation include turbocharged four- and six-cylinder units, commonly paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and mild-hybrid technology. The lineup continues in coupe, convertible, and Gran Coupe variants with rear- or all-wheel drive.
