VW TDI Settlement Has Been Approved by Judge

One more significant step in the VW emissions scandal: the preliminary approval of the 2.0-litre TDI Settlement Program.

In such a way, the United States District Court Judge had a look on the settlement that the automaker and government regulators came to in June. The judge is sure that the settlement is reasonable, fair and adequate.

A few more steps are needed to end this saga. The next one will be done in autumn when the agreement goes to court for final approval.

Then the company wants to start the settlement program right away.

The settlement supposes that VW will pay $15 billion to owners of the issued TDIs ($5,000-$10,000 each). The owners will also have their vehicles repaired or bought back with the prices that were available pre-scandal.

Actually, there is no approved repair for the 2.0-litre TDI unit. The automaker will need to buy back all of the almost half a million TDI cars mentioned in the settlement. The company’s executive revealed that they are testing a solution for fixing the TDI cars. If everything comes out, the producer can save billions of dollars.
