See BMW X1 Plug-In Hybrid

Paparazzi spied a plug-in hybrid BMW X1 before its possible launch in 2016.

The automaker is currently working on a plug-in hybrid variant of the 2nd-gen X1. The early prototype does not have the lighting clusters. There is the “hybrid test vehicle” inscription on the front door situated from the right. It can be perceived as a giveaway of the car’s propulsion. Moreover, there is a 2nd fuel cap on the car’s front left fender which works for recharging the batteries.

The hybridized SAV will probably be named X1 xDrive30e. The offering will use a 1.5-litre turbocharged V3 petrol engine. It will be joined to an electric engine, such as in the 2-Series Active Tourer hybrid prototype. The conventional engine produces 136 hp and torque of 220 Nm there. Meanwhile, the electric engine generates extra 88 hp and torque of 165 Nm.

It is necessary to underline that the X5 xDrive40e is bigger and heavier. Its consumption of fuel stands at 83.1 - 85.6 mpg UK (3.4-3.3 litres per 100 km or 69.1 - 71.2 mpg US). CO2 emissions are 78-77 g/km. The car is able to go up to 19 miles (or 31 km) on its electric motor. It looks like its smaller relative will be more efficient.

The producer is likely to introduce the hybrid X1 somewhere in the end of 2016. It might become the most expensive variant of the whole line-up. We remind you that the xDrive25d and X1 xDrive25i which ride with the optional Steptronic gear box that has price €42,760 in Germany.
