Passat Alltrack from Volkswagen receives a Rugged Suit

Volkswagen has presented its Alltrack variant of the new Passat before the official debut at the Motor Show in Geneva in March.

The new Alltrack version is originated on the latest Passat Variant. It will have a 27.5 mm enhanced ride height. Moreover, the vehicle will adopt a little bit more rugged styling with plastic body cladding on sill trims and wheel arches. Both bumpers will receive a different styling for improving the vehicle’s departure and approach angles during riding on bumpy roads. The automaker has equipped the car with stainless steel underbody plates for protecting the weak components of the vehicle.

The model under discussion is regular and has a 4-MOTION on-demand four-wheel drive system which channells the power to the front wheels in normal road conditions. Whenever the driver needs more grip, the Haldex coupling starts its work. It sends power to the back axle and improves traction. The regular differential lock sends power to the wheel having the most traction.

The automaker also considered throttle response, an “OffRoad” driving mode altering the braking input after its activation and the hill start & descent systems for enhancing the vehicle’s grip in the slippery conditions.

Expectedly, the engines are based on the Passat Variant. Those include a 1.4 TSI producing 150 hp and a 2.0 TSI generating 220 hp. There also are three 2.0 TDI engines producing 150 hp, 190 hp and 240 hp. The petrol and diesel engines having the most power will receive the company’s XDS+ system. The system can apply the brakes to the inside wheels at the times of rapid cornering for stability improvement.

The Volkswagen Passat Alltrack will debut in almost two weeks at the 2015 Motor Show in Geneva.
