Audi Q1 did not became Q2 because of FCA

A source states that Audi wanted to name the entry-level crossover “Q2”, but FCA denied selling its usage rights. That’s why the automaker had to use “Q1”.

We found out not long ago that the automaker had an intention to buy the “Q2” and “Q4” names from FCA, but their request was not satisfied. A source states that the confirmed “Q1” was initially named “Q2”. After Fiat Chrysler Automobiles refused to sale the name, the company had to come up with something different. Audi has contacted FCA and offered an authoritative sum of money to buy the “Q2” name, says an Audi source. The FCA representatives stressed that they were never contacted by the company about the name.

The story reminds of the FCA-possessed “Q4” nameplate which was going to be used for an innovated crossover with a sportive outlook from Audi. Now they are planning to use TTQ for a production variant of the TT off-road concept.
