VW Throws Naturally Aspirated Motors Overboard

VW will gradually leave its naturally aspirated motors behind as it provides new products.

Recently-appointed VW research and development chief Heinz-Jakob Neusser informed Carsbase that the brand plans to keep naturally-aspirated motors as long as they are in existing vehicles.

VW already informed that it will substitute the Passat mid-size sedan’s 5-cylinder motor with a 1.8-liter turbo version. The Beetle and Jetta will also lose the 2.5-liter 5-cylinder motor for the same motor.

When the 7th gen Golf arrives as a 2015 model in the U.S., it will also be offered with a fully forced induction line of motors, too. That also means VW will leave the 3.6-liter naturally aspirated V6 placed in the Passat, CC and Touareg behind, likely to be substituted by a smaller turbocharged 6-cylinder.
