6About this generation
The first Volvo C70 was presented in Paris in 1996.
The first Volvo C70 was presented in Paris in 1996. Its range comprised a two-door coupe and a convertible with a folding fabric roof, introduced the following year. Both had four seats and a flowing silhouette with long doors and a low roofline. Coupe production ended in 2002, while the convertible remained in production until 2005. Inline five-cylinder petrol engines were offered, including turbocharged versions, with manual or automatic transmissions depending on specification. The fixed-roof coupe and soft-top convertible belong to the same generation. They should therefore be distinguished by body style within this generation rather than treated as successive generations. The retractable metal roof arrived with the replacement C70.
