The Volkswagen Polo IV (Typ 9N) debuted at the 2001 Frankfurt Motor Show, instantly recognizable by its four individual round headlamps. Built upon the PQ24 architecture shared with the Skoda Fabia, it offered class-leading interior volume and structural rigidity. Body choices included hatchbacks and a notchback sedan. The 2005 facelift (9N3) replaced the round headlamps with unified assemblies and launched the raised CrossPolo variant.
Engines included 1.2-liter three-cylinders, 1.4/1.6-liter four-cylinders, a 1.8 Turbo in the Polo GTI (150/180 hp), and 1.4/1.9 TDI diesels delivering punchy torque and excellent fuel economy.
