The third-generation Volkswagen Gol subcompact hatchback with body code G5 was launched in 2008. Moving away from the legacy BX layout, the G5 adopted a transverse engine architecture built on the PQ24/PQ25 platform shared with the Fox and Polo. Subsequent visual updates were designated as Gol G6 (2012) and Gol G7 (2016).

Powertrains featured 1.0-liter and 1.6-liter EA111 and EA211 flex-fuel engines producing up to 120 hp. Power was managed by a five-speed manual transmission, an automated I-Motion gearbox, or a six-speed Tiptronic automatic. Production concluded in late 2022 after more than 40 years of Gol heritage.
