Volkswagen Caravelle T3 gallery (1979–1992)

The Volkswagen Caravelle T3 served as the passenger-focused variant of the third-generation Transporter van, produced between 1979 and 1992. Retaining a rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive configuration, the Caravelle offered upgraded interior trim, plush seating for up to nine occupants, optional air conditioning, and enhanced cabin soundproofing.

Engine choices evolved from air-cooled 1.6 and 2.0-liter flat-four engines to liquid-cooled Wasserboxer engines displacing 1.9 and 2.1 liters. Inline-four 1.6 D and 1.6 TD diesels were also offered. The highly acclaimed all-wheel-drive Syncro model, co-developed with Steyr-Daimler-Puch, gained renown for off-road capability.
