Toyota Tundra II (XK50) photos

The second-generation Toyota Tundra (XK50) was unveiled in 2006 at the Chicago Auto Show. The truck grew significantly in all dimensions to compete more directly with heavy-duty American pickups. Production was moved to a new plant in San Antonio, Texas. The vehicle featured a massive frame, upgraded brakes, and a payload capacity exceeding one ton. The major mechanical highlight was the introduction of an all-new 5.7-liter V8 engine (3UR-FE) producing 381 hp, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The 4.0L V6 and 4.7L V8 from the previous generation were carried over as base options.

Over its 15-year production run, the truck received two major updates. The 2014 model year facelift brought a revised exterior design with a massive grille and a completely redesigned interior featuring a new center console. The luxurious 1794 Edition trim was also introduced. A second update arrived for 2018, when all Tundra models received the Toyota Safety Sense suite of active safety features as standard equipment, along with minor styling tweaks to the grille and headlights. The XK50 generation established a reputation as an exceptionally reliable and durable truck.
