Revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2009, the J150 series Prado built upon a strengthened ladder frame. Featuring bold exterior surfacing and upgraded interior insulation, it introduced advanced off-road technologies including Multi-Terrain Select, Crawl Control, and Multi-Terrain Monitor 360-degree cameras. Engineers paid meticulous attention to structural body rigidity, minimizing noise, vibration, and harshness levels while enhancing cabin material quality. The refined chassis architecture delivered excellent ride comfort and predictable handling characteristics across both urban streets and high-speed highways.

Engines featured 2.7L 2TR-FE four-cylinder and 4.0L 1GR-FE V6 petrol units, alongside 3.0L 1KD-FTV D-4D and the newer 2.8L 1GD-FTV turbodiesel (177–200 hp) introduced in 2015. Transmissions upgraded to 6-speed automatics. The J150 received three major facelifts in 2013, 2017, and 2020 before concluding its 14-year production run in late 2023. High levels of active and passive safety were corroborated by outstanding crash test results and comprehensive driver assistance technologies. Thanks to exceptional mechanical endurance and robust powertrain engineering, this generation earned global acclaim across all major automotive markets.
