The first generation Toyota Aqua (NHP10) hybrid hatchback was produced from 2011 to 2021, marketed globally as the Prius c.
The Toyota Aqua subcompact hybrid hatchback, designated NHP10, launched in Japan in December 2011. Engineered on Toyota's B-platform, the Aqua aimed for maximum urban fuel efficiency. Its aerodynamic silhouette achieved a 0.28 drag coefficient. By packaging the battery pack under the rear seats, the Aqua retained full trunk space despite its hybrid components.
Its Toyota Hybrid System II paired a 1.5-liter 1NZ-FXE Atkinson-cycle engine (74 hp) with an electric motor (61 hp) for 100 hp net system output via an eCVT. The model held the top sales spot in Japan for three consecutive years. Facelifts in 2014 and 2017 introduced revised styling and a rugged Crossover trim level.
