The first-generation Suzuki XL-7 three-row body-on-frame SUV (TX92) was produced from 1998 to 2006.
Produced from 1998 to 2006, the first-generation Suzuki XL-7 (TX92 series, launched as the Grand Vitara XL-7) was designed as an affordable three-row 7-passenger body-on-frame SUV. Engineereed by stretching the wheelbase of the 5-door Grand Vitara by 320 mm, the XL-7 preserved true off-road pedigree including a steel ladder frame, a live rear axle, and part-time Drive Select four-wheel drive with low-range transfer gears.
The primary engine was a 2.7-liter H27A DOHC V6 producing 173 hp (upgraded to 185 hp in 2004), paired with manual or torque-converter automatic transmissions. European markets were offered a Peugeot-sourced 2.0-liter HDi turbodiesel engine. A major 2003 mid-cycle update replaced the interior dashboard layout, instrument cluster, front grille, and headlight assemblies.
