Unveiled in April 2012, the first-generation Suzuki Ertiga (chassis code ZE) was engineered by Maruti Suzuki as a budget three-row 7-passenger compact MPV. Constructed on an extended Suzuki Swift platform with a 2,740 mm wheelbase, the Ertiga combined subcompact exterior dimensions with impressive interior space utilization.

Engine choices featured a 1.4-liter K14B naturally aspirated gasoline engine (95 hp) and a 1.3-liter DDiS turbodiesel engine (90 hp), alongside factory CNG variants. Transmissions included a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic. A 2015 mid-cycle update added chrome exterior accents, SHVS mild-hybrid technology for diesel models, and touchscreen infotainment.
