Suzuki Baleno I (EG/SY) gallery (1995–2002)
The first-generation Suzuki Baleno compact family (EG/SY) was produced from 1995 to 2002.
Introduced in early 1995 as the Suzuki Cultus Crescent in Japan and exported globally as the Suzuki Baleno (EG/SY chassis series), this model marked Suzuki's entry into the competitive global C-segment market. The lineup featured 3-door hatchbacks, 4-door sedans, and 5-door station wagons (Estate). Constructed with a newly designed chassis featuring four-wheel independent MacPherson strut suspension, the Baleno emphasized cabin space and comfortable highway cruising.
Engines initially consisted of 1.3-liter (85 hp) and 1.6-liter (99 hp) 16-valve four-cylinders. In 1996, a performance 1.8-liter DOHC engine producing 121 hp joined the range for GTX/GT models, while a Peugeot-sourced 1.9-liter turbodiesel catered to European buyers. Full-time four-wheel drive was optional on 1.6-liter models. A major mid-cycle facelift in late 1998 gave the front end a dramatically revised appearance with large almond-shaped headlights and an integrated grille.
