The second generation Pleo Plus eco-hatchback launched in 2017 built on an ultra-lightweight platform with Smart Assist III safety.
Introduced in May 2017, the second-generation Subaru Pleo Plus (LA350/LA360 code) is a rebadged version of the second-generation Daihatsu Mira e:S. Utilizing resin body panels, total curb weight was reduced by 80 kg while structural stiffness increased. Motivation is supplied by a 658 cc 3-cylinder KF-VE petrol engine (49 hp) mated to a CVT. The engineering setup effectively combined the low center of gravity inherent to the horizontally-opposed engine layout with a rigid chassis frame, delivering precise handling and composure across dry pavement and slippery surfaces alike. Engine bay packaging ensured optimal front-to-rear axle weight distribution alongside efficient thermal cooling under sustained driving loads.
Available with FWD or 4WD, standard equipment includes the Smart Assist III stereo-camera active safety system. Minor cabin tech updates arrived in 2020. Production continues in Japan. Designers placed a strong emphasis on cabin ergonomics, occupant visibility, and long-distance driving comfort. Robust mechanical reliability across the drivetrain and suspension components helped establish this generation as a benchmark choice within its competitive market segment worldwide.
