The third generation SsangYong Rexton (Y300), known as the Rexton W and produced from 2012 to 2017, brought a comprehensive platform upgrade, a new design, and modern eco-friendly engines. The vehicle retained its robust ladder-frame construction and five-door body style, but received a completely redesigned front end featuring a new grille and headlights. The powertrain lineup was updated to include an economical 2.0-liter e-XDi diesel, later followed by a more powerful 2.2-liter Euro-6 compliant version, alongside a retuned petrol engine. These were paired with a 6-speed manual transmission or automatic gearboxes sourced from Mercedes-Benz (5G-Tronic and 7G-Tronic). Key changes compared to the previous generation included improved sound insulation, a retuned suspension, enhanced fuel efficiency, and an expanded suite of active safety systems. The vehicle was marketed in South Korea, Europe, Russia, and assembled at partner plants in India and other regions under the SsangYong brand.
