Debuting in 1968, the Rolls-Royce Phantom VI was the ultimate evolution of the classic coachbuilt British limousine, remaining in low-volume bespoke production until 1990. Hand-assembled exclusively by Mulliner Park Ward on a heavy-duty steel ladder frame, the Phantom VI retained the majestic four-headlamp profile of its predecessor while introducing critical structural and comfort improvements, notably an advanced dual-zone air-conditioning system. Initially powered by the 6.2-litre V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission, the Phantom VI received a substantial powertrain overhaul in 1979: displacement increased to 6.75 litres, and a modern GM-sourced three-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 gearbox was adopted along with front disc brakes. The interior offered boundless bespoke customization, from rare burr walnut cabinetry to custom telecommunication suites. With only 374 examples crafted over 22 years, the Phantom VI concluded the golden era of traditional separate-chassis coachbuilding at Rolls-Royce.
