4About this generation
Unveiled in 2024, the second-generation Nissan Kicks (P16) grew significantly in dimensions, adopting a bold, boxy exterior design, a larger 2.0-liter engine, and available all-wheel drive for North American buyers.
Debuting in early 2024 for the 2025 model year, the second-generation Nissan Kicks—internally designated P16—represented a complete ground-up redesign that shifted the five-door subcompact crossover toward a larger, more rugged, and more upscale market positioning. Underpinned by the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance's modular CMF-B architecture, the P16 grew noticeably longer, wider, and taller than the outgoing P15 generation, translating into increased shoulder room, rear knee clearance, and cargo volume. Visually, the crossover traded the swooping V-Motion motif of its predecessor for an upright, truck-inspired stance featuring a Squared-off front fascia, horizontal LED daytime running light bars integrated into a wide dark grille, pronounced fender flares, and geometric lower rocker panels inspired by athletic footwear soles. In North America, the biggest mechanical upgrade over the P15 was the replacement of the modest 1.6-liter engine with a more powerful 2.0-liter naturally aspirated inline-four petrol engine (MR20DD) paired with the latest-generation Xtronic CVT tuned for more responsive simulated shifts, while Latin American markets were slated to receive a 1.0-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine mated to a dual-clutch transmission. Crucially, the P16 introduced factory Intelligent All-Wheel Drive across all trim levels in North America for the first time, accompanied by a dedicated Snow driving mode, increased ground clearance of 8.4 inches, and an independent multi-link rear suspension on AWD models in place of the front-wheel-drive version's torsion beam setup. Inside, the modernized cabin introduced a monolith-style dual-screen dashboard housing up to twin 12.3-inch displays, wireless smartphone integration, Zero Gravity seating technology extended to both front and rear rows, an available panoramic moonroof, and a Bose Personal Plus audio system. Standard Nissan Safety Shield 360 and available ProPILOT Assist further strengthened its appeal across key markets in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Latin America.
