Nissan Elgrand II (E51) photos

Launched in May 2002, the second-generation Nissan Elgrand (codenamed E51) retained the longitudinal front-engine layout with rear-wheel drive or selectable all-wheel drive, while adopting a revised platform featuring an independent multi-link rear suspension and four-wheel ventilated disc brakes. Compared to the preceding E50 generation, a major structural upgrade was the standard inclusion of dual-side sliding doors, improving cabin accessibility for second- and third-row passengers. Powertrain options shifted exclusively to V6 gasoline engines of the VQ family, starting with the 3.5-liter VQ35DE at launch and expanding in late 2004 with the 2.5-liter VQ25DE, both paired with a five-speed automatic transmission featuring manual shift control. Diesel powertrains were discontinued for this model line. The E51 underwent facelifts in 2004 and 2007 that refreshed the front grille, headlights, tail lamps, dashboard layout, and onboard electronics, eventually introducing Nissan's Around View Monitor camera system. Primarily marketed in Japan and select right-hand-drive Asian markets such as Hong Kong, the E51 was widely offered in luxury trims, sporty Highway Star variants, and custom Autech Rider editions.
