3About this generation
The global third-generation Nissan Almera (N17, 2011–2019) was a fuel-efficient subcompact sedan built on the Nissan V platform for Asian, African, and emerging international markets.
Manufactured from 2011 to 2019, the N17-series Nissan Almera served as the global third-generation subcompact sedan, marketed alternatively as the Nissan Sunny, Versa, or Latio depending on the region. Unlike previous generations and the CIS-specific G15 model, the N17 was engineered on the lightweight front-wheel-drive Nissan V platform shared with the K13 Micra hatchback. Available exclusively as a four-door sedan, it combined compact exterior dimensions and aerodynamic styling with surprisingly generous rear cabin space. Targeting high-demand markets across Southeast Asia (such as Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines), Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America, the powertrain lineup focused on fuel economy and urban drivability. Buyers could choose from a 1.2-liter three-cylinder petrol engine (HR12DE) or 1.5-liter and 1.6-liter four-cylinder petrol units (HR15DE and HR16DE), alongside select regional diesel options. These engines were mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, a conventional four-speed automatic, or an Xtronic continuously variable transmission (CVT). Around 2014, a mid-cycle facelift refreshed the N17 with reshaped headlamps, a bolder front grille, restyled bumpers, and an updated interior center stack with improved multimedia features.
