The first-generation Mitsubishi Pajero Sport (K90 chassis code, known as the Challenger, Montero Sport, or Nativa depending on the market) introduced in 1996. Built on a heavy-duty ladder-frame architecture shared with the L200 pickup, it bridged the product positioning between the smaller Pajero iO and the flagship Pajero. Available solely as a five-door SUV, it utilized independent double-wishbone front suspension and a solid rear axle. Engineering of the Pajero Sport I (K90) (factory code K90) emphasized high structural rigidity, aerodynamic efficiency, and optimized interior spatial packaging.
