About this generation

The first all-electric iteration of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class built on a dedicated battery-electric platform with a traditional three-box sedan profile, debuting in 2027 to replace the EQE.

The all-electric generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class is engineered from a clean sheet on a dedicated battery-electric platform, serving as the direct successor to the EQE sedan following the latter's discontinuation for the 2027 model year. While it shares the E-Class nameplate and aligns visually with the facelifted W214 combustion model, it utilizes an independent electric architecture. A localized version built almost entirely from regionally sourced components is also scheduled to launch in China in the second half of 2027.

Departing from the cab-forward, aerodynamics-focused silhouette of the outgoing EQE, the electric E-Class adopts a conventional three-box luxury sedan proportion. Prototype models retain star-motif daytime running lights in the headlamps while omitting the star graphics from the taillights. An estate variant remains uncertain due to limited market demand for electric wagons, leaving the four-door sedan as the primary body style.

The powertrain lineup consists exclusively of battery-electric configurations. In addition to standard single- and dual-motor variants, the range includes a high-output performance model developed by AMG to rival the BMW i5 M60 and Audi S6 e-tron. Key engineering priorities compared to the previous electric model focus on improved interior packaging, ride comfort, structural safety, and next-generation onboard electronics.
