The ninth-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W213) debuted at the North American International Auto Show in January 2016. Underpinned by the lightweight MRA platform, its aerodynamic silhouette achieved a drag coefficient of 0.23. The versatile range featured the sedan (W213), estate (S213), rugged All-Terrain estate, coupe (C238), and cabriolet (A238). Inside, the cabin showcased dual 12.3-inch widescreen displays, touch-sensitive steering wheel controls, and the optional Drive Pilot suite for advanced semi-autonomous highway guidance.
Engine offerings introduced modular four- and inline-six engine families (M264, M256 with 48V mild-hybrid system, OM654, OM656 diesels) alongside plug-in hybrids like the E 300 e and E 300 de. The flagship Mercedes-AMG E 63 S 4MATIC+ produced 612 hp from a 4.0-liter biturbo V8 featuring a selectable rear-wheel-drive Drift Mode. A standard 9G-Tronic automatic managed shifting duties. A major 2020 facelift refreshed front and rear lighting, introduced a redesigned capacitive steering wheel, and integrated the MBUX infotainment suite.
