Maserati Quattroporte IV (AM337) photos

Introduced at the 1994 Turin Motor Show, the fourth-generation Maserati Quattroporte (Tipo AM337) embraced a significantly more compact and agile footprint than its predecessor. Built upon an elongated evolution of the Biturbo unibody chassis, its aggressive wedge-shaped exterior featuring trademark angular rear wheel arches was penned by Marcello Gandini. The opulent cabin was trimmed extensively in Connolly leather and fine wood veneers. The initial powertrain range comprised two twin-turbocharged V6 engines: an Italy-specific tax-efficient 2.0-liter unit rated at 287 hp and an export 2.8-liter unit with 284 hp. In 1996, the flagship 3.2-liter twin-turbocharged V8 producing 335 hp was introduced, paired with a 6-speed Getrag manual or a 4-speed automatic gearbox. Following Fiat's transfer of Maserati control to Ferrari in 1997, the model underwent comprehensive re-engineering in 1998, emerging as the Quattroporte Evoluzione. This revision altered nearly half of the car's mechanical and electrical components to dramatically enhance build quality and reliability. Production concluded in 2001 with 2,400 cars built across all variants.
