The first-generation Lexus LX 450 (J80) launched in 1995 as the brand's first luxury full-size SUV based on the Land Cruiser 80 platform.
The first-generation Lexus LX luxury full-size SUV (chassis code J80) premiered in November 1995 for the 1996 model year as the LX 450. Developed on the heavy-duty Toyota Land Cruiser 80 platform, it marked Lexus's entry into the luxury SUV segment. Exterior differentiation featured a distinctive front grille, bodyside cladding, chrome accents, and model-specific alloy wheels. The eight-passenger interior provided leather seating, California walnut wood trim, dual-zone climate control, and a premium sound system.
Under the hood sat a 4.5-liter 1FZ-FE inline-six gasoline engine producing 212 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. Power was routed through a four-speed automatic transmission to a full-time four-wheel-drive system with a two-speed transfer case and viscous-coupling center differential lock. Solid front and rear axles with coil-spring suspension provided formidable off-road capability alongside serene highway cruising.
