The third-generation Lexus LS luxury sedan (chassis code XF30) premiered at the North American International Auto Show in January 2000 as the LS 430. Aerodynamically refined using Shinkansen bullet train wind tunnels, it achieved an ultra-low drag coefficient of 0.25 with available air suspension. Interior amenities reached unprecedented luxury levels, featuring reclining rear massage seats, power door closers, a rear cooler box, and a custom Mark Levinson 11-speaker sound system.

Powering the LS 430 was a new 4.3-liter 3UZ-FE V8 engine generating 290 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque, paired initially with a five-speed automatic and upgraded for 2004 to a six-speed automatic transmission. Driver technology debuted SmartAccess keyless entry, laser cruise control, and Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS). A 2003 update restyled the front fascia, headlights, LED taillights, and exhaust tips.
