About this generation

The second generation of the Kia Sorento with unibody construction, 7-seat layout, and modern Theta II and R-Diesel engines. The model combines proven engineering reliability, refined.

The second-generation Kia Sorento (XM) debuted in April 2009 at the Seoul Motor Show. Transitioning to a modern unibody construction, it shed over 215 kg while improving aerodynamics and interior packaging. Body length expanded to 4,685 mm, allowing Kia to offer a three-row 7-passenger seating configuration for the first time. Exterior styling by Peter Schreyer delivered a sleek profile dominated by the corporate Tiger Nose grille. This generation of the Sorento (XM) was produced from 2009 to 2014 and offered in внедорожник body styles. Built on an engineered platform, it features strong structural rigidity, refined aerodynamics, and advanced occupant safety engineering.

Engine choices comprised 2.4-liter Theta II petrol engines (174-192 hp), a 3.5-liter Lambda II V6 (277 hp), and R-series turbo-diesel engines (2.0L with 150 hp and 2.2L with 197 hp). A 2.7 LPI liquefied gas variant was available in South Korea. A major 2012 refresh migrated the vehicle to the Hyundai Santa Fe DM platform, adding vertical LED fog lamps, enhanced body rigidity, and an 8-inch touchscreen. The powertrain lineup features modern engines optimized for thermal efficiency, balancing responsive acceleration with economical fuel consumption. Power is delivered through reliable manual or automatic transmissions.
