About this generation

The first-generation Kia Sorento (BL) was launched in early 2002 as a rugged mid-size SUV. Featuring a traditional heavy-duty body-on-frame construction with a solid rear axle, it delivered genuine off-road capability. Suspension tuning was optimized with engineering support from Porsche to ensure refined on-road ride quality. Measuring 4,567 mm in length, its 5-door cabin offered elevated seating, command visibility, and generous standard luxury amenities. This generation of the Sorento (BL) was produced from 2002 to 2009 and offered in внедорожник body styles. Built on an engineered platform, it features strong structural rigidity, refined aerodynamics, and advanced occupant safety engineering.

Powertrains initially included 2.4-liter four-cylinder (139 hp) and 3.5-liter Sigma V6 (192 hp) petrol engines, alongside a 2.5-liter CRDi Common Rail turbo-diesel (140 hp). Four-wheel drive systems ranged from a part-time setup to BorgWarner's Torque-on-Demand full-time AWD. A 2006 facelift introduced updated styling, a boosted 170-hp diesel, and new 3.3-liter (242 hp) and 3.8-liter (266 hp) Lambda V6 petrol engines. The powertrain lineup features modern engines optimized for thermal efficiency, balancing responsive acceleration with economical fuel consumption. Power is delivered through reliable manual or automatic transmissions.
