The second-generation Kia Rio (JB) debuted at the 2005 Detroit Auto Show. Sharing Hyundai-Kia's JB platform with the Hyundai Accent (MC), its wheelbase expanded to 2,500 mm, with the sedan measuring 4,240 mm long and the 5-door hatchback measuring 3,990 mm. Its design reflected clean European proportions with a taller roofline and enhanced cabin space. This generation of the Rio (JB) was produced from 2005 to 2011 and offered in седан, хэтчбек body styles. Built on an engineered platform, it features strong structural rigidity, refined aerodynamics, and advanced occupant safety engineering.

Powertrains comprised 1.4-liter (97 hp) and 1.6-liter CVVT (112 hp) Alpha petrol engines, as well as a 1.5-liter CRDi 16-valve turbo-diesel generating 110 hp. A 2009 refresh styled by Peter Schreyer introduced Kia's Tiger Nose grille, blacked-out headlight housings, a restyled steering wheel, and upgraded audio connectivity with USB/AUX inputs. The powertrain lineup features modern engines optimized for thermal efficiency, balancing responsive acceleration with economical fuel consumption. Power is delivered through reliable manual or automatic transmissions. Mid-cycle updates introduced modernized LED lighting graphics, premium cabin materials, and enhanced active driver assistance suites.
