The second-generation Kia Optima (MG) premiered in 2005 at the Seoul Motor Show. Built on Hyundai-Kia's mid-size NF platform shared with the fifth-generation Sonata, its wheelbase grew to 2,720 mm and length reached 4,735 mm. Structural safety improved dramatically, earning top ratings in NHTSA testing. The redesigned interior offered upgraded upholstery, electronic climate control, and standard side curtain airbags. This generation of the Optima (MG) was produced from 2005 to 2010 and offered in седан body styles. Built on an engineered platform, it features strong structural rigidity, refined aerodynamics, and advanced occupant safety engineering.

Powertrains included 2.0-liter (144-164 hp) and 2.4-liter (161-175 hp) Theta petrol engines, along with a 2.7-liter Mu V6 (188-194 hp). European markets received a 2.0-liter CRDi turbo-diesel (140 hp). A major 2008 facelift redesigned by Peter Schreyer lengthened the car to 4,800 mm, added a Tiger Nose grille, and introduced a modernized center console. The powertrain lineup features modern engines optimized for thermal efficiency, balancing responsive acceleration with economical fuel consumption. Power is delivered through reliable manual or automatic transmissions. Mid-cycle updates introduced modernized LED lighting graphics, premium cabin materials, and enhanced active driver assistance suites.
