The first generation of Isuzu Forward (F-Series) medium-duty commercial trucks entered mass production in April 1970, replacing the earlier TY series. The vehicle was built on a robust semi-cabover frame platform and equipped with a reliable 5.0-liter D500 diesel engine producing 125 horsepower. During a 1971 upgrade, engine power was increased to 130 hp, and following a major facelift in 1972 (SBR code), a more modern 5.4-liter 6BB1 unit was introduced. The truck featured a utilitarian yet functional cab with improved visibility and a heavy-duty suspension designed for rigorous operating conditions. Compared to its predecessor, payload capacity and overall transmission durability were significantly improved. The model was primarily distributed in the domestic Japanese market and gradually exported to other Asian countries, marking a crucial milestone in Isuzu's commercial vehicle development before the second generation arrived in 1975.
