The full-size three-row Hyundai Veracruz (EN platform, badged as ix55 in Europe) debuted in October 2006. Engineered as Hyundai's flagship luxury crossover to challenge premium Japanese rivals, the Veracruz offered seating for seven, whisper-quiet cabin acoustic dampening, and a power tailgate.

Powertrains comprised a 3.8-liter Lambda V6 petrol engine (260 hp) and an advanced 3.0-liter S-Line V6 CRDi turbodiesel delivering up to 250 horsepower. All engines were mated to a 6-speed Aisin automatic transmission and electronically controlled AWD lockable couplings.
