The third-generation Hyundai Santa Fe (DM platform) premiered at the 2012 New York International Auto Show. Built under the Storm Edge design language, the line was divided into two body lengths: the five-passenger Santa Fe Sport (DM) and the extended three-row Grand Santa Fe (NC chassis) featuring a 100 mm longer wheelbase.

Engine selections featured 2.4-liter GDI, 2.0-liter Turbo GDI (264 hp), 3.3-liter Lambda II V6 (290 hp), and 2.0-liter / 2.2-liter CRDi turbodiesels (200 hp). All engines were mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. A 2015 facelift (Prime) added LED daytime running light accents, redesigned grilles, and surround-view monitor systems.
