The first-generation Honda Odyssey (RA1–RA5) launched in October 1994. Engineered during Japan's economic downturn, it smartly derived components from the Accord sedan platform. It uniquely featured hinged passenger doors rather than sliding units and pioneering third-row seats that folded flat into the floor cavity.
Power came from 2.2-liter F22B (145 hp) and 2.3-liter F23A (150 hp) inline-fours, supplemented in 1997 by a 3.0-liter J30A V6 (200 hp). Power was delivered through a column-mounted 4-speed automatic. A 1997 mid-cycle facelift updated exterior trim, lighting, and grille design.
