Updated 2027 Honda Civic Type R Debuts With Chassis And Cooling Revisions
Honda has given the Civic Type R a round of updates for 2027, making its already feisty hot hatch sharper, more comfortable, and better equipped. While the performance hatchback is being discontinued in Europe due to stricter emissions legislation, the updated model arrives at United States dealerships this month.
The exterior features a discreetly redesigned front fascia with a larger grille opening and a deeper front splitter. These changes reduce turbulence, improve airflow velocity to keep the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine cool under hard driving, and increase downforce. Additionally, Honda introduced a new Meteorite Gray Metallic exterior color for the 2027 model year.
Under the skin, engineers reworked the suspension damping in +R mode to enhance road-following performance while reducing bounce and impact harshness. The braking system benefits from an added yoke spring on the brake pedal to eliminate linkage play and provide a more direct pedal feel. The rev-matching system has also been retuned for quicker engine response during downshifts, complementing the six-speed manual gearbox.
Inside, the cabin receives heated front seats as standard equipment, Ultrasuede trim on the upper dashboard and front door panels, and a new diamond-pattern dashboard finish. Darker accents appear on the aluminum shift knob, console trim, door handles, and climate controls. The center console adds two USB-C ports above the wireless charger. Technology upgrades include built-in Google services with Google Maps and Google Play, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and refined driver-assistance systems featuring post-collision braking for the first time.
In the US market, the 2027 Honda Civic Type R starts at $49,990 including destination and handling fees, representing a $1,300 increase over the previous model year. Meanwhile, rumors suggest Honda is also preparing a production version based on the hardcore HRC Concept for the FL5 generation.
