GMC Savana II (GMT610) gallery (2003–present)
The second generation of the heavy-duty commercial van featuring significant chassis upgrades and continued ongoing production.
The second-generation GMC Savana debuted for the 2003 model year on the upgraded GMT610 platform and continues production today. The redesign brought a modern front fascia, restyled interior dashboard, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, and an upgraded hydroformed front frame section. Notable technical innovations included an available all-wheel-drive system (offered on 1500 models until 2014) and optional driver-side 60/40 swing-out cargo doors. Engine offerings transitioned to modern Generation III/IV small-block V8s (4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L), a 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel V8, and later a 2.8-liter Duramax I4 diesel and the modern 6.6-liter L8T gas V8 with 401 hp. Transmissions were systematically upgraded from four-speed units to modern 6-speed and 8-speed automatic transmissions. With continuous updates to electronic stability control, infotainment, and safety aids, the Savana remains an enduring pillar of North American commercial fleets.
