Introduced for the 1997 model year, the Expedition (UN93) replaced the two-door Bronco to challenge full-size competitors. Built upon the tenth-generation F-150 platform, this body-on-frame SUV accommodated up to nine passengers across three seating rows. It combined heavy-duty towing specs with family-oriented passenger comfort for long interstate highway journeys.
Power came exclusively from 4.6-liter and 5.4-liter Triton V8 engines paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Optional air suspension automatically adjusted ride height, while the ControlTrac four-wheel-drive system featured low-range transfer case gearing for serious off-road capability in difficult weather conditions.
