The third generation introduced a key innovation—a second sliding door on the driver's side, which radically simplified entry and loading. The model became more modern, with improved engines and a more comfortable cabin. The design became less 'van-like,' approaching that of passenger cars. The Caravan remained the undisputed segment leader, offering innovations that all competitors later copied, while maintaining the reputation of the ideal family vehicle.
