Ram Revives a Practical Van You'll Actually Appreciate
- Ram is bringing back the ProMaster City for the 2027 model year.
- Built on Stellantis' versatile mid-size commercial van platform shared with European models like the Citroën Dispatch.
- Expected to launch within a year, the starting price may be below $40,000.
Ram is set to reintroduce the ProMaster City van to the U.S. market in 2027 with a completely redesigned model. The vehicle will be available for purchase starting next year.
The new van is constructed on Stellantis’ K0 global mid-size van architecture, the same foundation used for European vehicles such as the Citroën Dispatch and Opel Vivaro. One notable update is the adoption of the Ram nameplate, which will be featured across upcoming Ram vehicles.
Under the hood, the ProMaster City is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine generating 166 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. This engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels. Suspension consists of a front MacPherson strut and rear independent trailing arms.
Optimized Dimensions
The 2027 ProMaster City stands just under 77 inches tall, enabling it to fit into most city garages and parking structures. It rides on a 129-inch wheelbase and boasts a tight turning radius of approximately 42 feet.
With a cargo volume exceeding 167 cubic feet, the van includes a 111-inch-long loading floor, 48 inches of width between wheel wells, and 54 inches of interior height. This generous space can easily accommodate two standard U.S. pallets or sheets of 4x8 plywood.
Entry into the cargo area is facilitated by 180-degree rear swing doors or an optional liftgate, while a 36-inch wide by 48-inch tall sliding door is available on the passenger side. The van supports a payload capacity over 2,000 pounds and targets a towing capability of the same figure.
Built for Business
The ProMaster City emphasizes practicality and utility. It will be offered in both Cargo Van and Passenger Wagon versions, with two trim levels: Tradesman and SLT. The Passenger Wagon can accommodate between five and eight occupants.
The Tradesman trim includes safety features such as forward collision warning, automatic headlights, rear parking sensors, and also comforts like heated front seats, black plastic bumpers, and a programmable speed limiter. The interior features a 10-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Upgrading to the SLT adds body-colored bumpers with fog lamps, dual-tone 17-inch wheels, front parking sensors, and a wireless phone charger. A heated steering wheel is available as an option.
Ram plans to offer 11 total configurations combining window and panel options, alongside two rear door choices. Buyers can select from six exterior colors.
Manufacture of the ProMaster City will take place in Turkey, with sales launching in early 2027. Ram aims to price the base model under $40,000.
