Debuting in early 2009, the second-generation BMW Z4 (E89) marked a major shift in philosophy by replacing both the previous roadster and coupe variants with a single retractable hardtop design. Under the skin, the E89 evolved from free-breathing engines to forced induction, offering turbocharged four- and six-cylinder petrol units. Range-topping models like the sDrive35is utilized the powerful twin-turbo N54 inline-six paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). With adaptive M suspension and selectable driving modes, the E89 balanced touring refinement with athletic speed, representing a sophisticated chapter in BMW’s sports roadster lineage.
