BMW X3 photos

The original BMW X3 with chassis code E83 arrived in 2003, establishing the compact luxury crossover category on a rear-biased chassis architecture. It introduced the intelligent xDrive all-wheel-drive system across an engine lineup of naturally aspirated inline-sixes and diesels, offered with manual and automatic transmissions. A mid-cycle update replaced unpainted body cladding with body-colored bumpers and updated interior materials.

The second generation, designated F25, ran from 2010 to 2017 with noticeably larger dimensions and a more refined cabin. It transitioned to an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard across most variants and introduced turbocharged four-cylinder powerplants. A mid-lifecycle refresh updated front styling to align the headlights directly with the kidney grille.

The third generation G01 launched in 2017 on the modular CLAR platform, bringing weight savings, updated chassis tuning, and plug-in hybrid options. In 2024, the fourth generation G45 debuted with a bold geometric exterior language, unified curved interior displays, and an entirely electrified powertrain lineup.
