About the model

The BMW M5 debuted with the E28 generation sedan produced from 1984 to 1988, combining an executive body with a motorsport-derived engine. The second generation E34, built from 1988 to 1995, expanded the range by offering both a sedan and a touring wagon. The third generation E39 arrived in 1998 and ran until 2003 as a sedan only, introducing an upgraded aluminum chassis and refined multi-cylinder atmospheric power.

The fourth generation E60 sedan and E61 wagon were built from 2004 to 2010, featuring a high-revving atmospheric engine and automated transmission technology. The fifth generation F10, produced from 2011 to 2016 as a sedan, transitioned the model into the turbocharged era with modern automatic gearboxes. The sixth generation F90 sedan followed from 2017 to 2023, introducing an advanced all-wheel-drive platform alongside updated twin-turbo power.

The seventh generation G90 sedan and G99 wagon entered production in 2024 and remain in production today, bringing electrified performance technology and modern digital platforms to the historic nameplate.
