About the model

The BMW 1-series debuted in 2004 with the first-generation E87 platform. This generation stood out for its body variety, offering three- and five-door hatchbacks alongside dedicated coupe and convertible variants, all built around a rear-wheel-drive chassis layout.

With the introduction of the second-generation F20, the model range narrowed exclusively to hatchback body styles. This generation adopted turbocharged petrol and diesel engines, updated multi-gear automatic transmissions, and available intelligent all-wheel drive.

The third generation F40 transitioned the hatchback to a front-wheel-drive platform with transversely mounted engines, maximizing cabin space. The subsequent fourth-generation F70 retained the compact hatchback profile while introducing updated exterior styling and modern digital cockpit systems.
