Unveiled in 1998, the first-generation Audi TT (chassis code 8N) instantly achieved legendary status as a milestone in automotive industrial design. Penned by Freeman Thomas and Peter Schreyer following Bauhaus design principles, the TT featured a distinct symmetrical profile, circular arch motifs, and strict clean surfaces. A soft-top Roadster joined the coupe variant in 1999.

Powertrains centered on 1.8-liter 20-valve turbocharged engines outputting between 150 and 225 hp, topped by a 3.2-liter VR6 producing 250 hp. The 3.2 VR6 model introduced the world's first dual-clutch Direct-Shift Gearbox (DSG) in a series-production passenger car.
