Acura TL IV (UA8/UA9) gallery (2008–2014)
The fourth-generation Acura TL (UA8/UA9) was manufactured from 2008 to 2014, introducing SH-AWD and a 3.7-liter V6 engine option.
Unveiled in 2008 for the 2009 model year, the fourth-generation Acura TL (UA8/UA9 chassis) expanded in overall dimensions, reclassifying the sedan as a mid-size/full-size luxury vehicle. The design debuted Acura's striking Power Plenum front grille design language and aggressive wheel arches. Crucially, this generation introduced Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) to the TL series, providing dynamic rear torque vectoring for enhanced wet and dry cornering stability. Engineering priorities for this generation focused on structural rigidity, chassis refinement, and elevating active safety capabilities.
Front-wheel drive models (UA8) carried a 3.5-liter J35Z6 V6 making 280 horsepower, whereas SH-AWD models (UA9) featured a high-output 3.7-liter J37A4 V6 delivering 305 horsepower—the most powerful engine in Acura history up to that point. Transmissions included a 5-speed automatic (upgraded to a 6-speed automatic for 2012) and a 6-speed manual offered exclusively on SH-AWD variants. A 2012 refresh scaled back grille proportions and refined cabin acoustic dampening. A comprehensive list of standard features combined with proven powertrain durability helped secure a strong market presence in its segment.
