Acura MDX III (YD3) gallery (2013–2020)
The third-generation Acura MDX (YD3) was produced from 2013 to 2020, offering efficient front-wheel drive options and a Sport Hybrid powertrain.
Debuting in 2013 for the 2014 model year, the third-generation Acura MDX (YD3 chassis) adopted an all-new lightweight platform that shed approximately 275 pounds while expanding wheelbase and rear legroom. It introduced Jewel Eye LED headlights and improved aerodynamic efficiency. For the first time in MDX history, a front-wheel-drive variant was offered alongside the traditional torque-vectoring SH-AWD system, catering to buyers in warm-weather regions seeking maximized fuel efficiency. Engineering priorities for this generation focused on structural rigidity, chassis refinement, and elevating active safety capabilities.
The primary engine was a direct-injected 3.5-liter Earth Dreams J35Y5 V6 producing 290 horsepower with Variable Cylinder Management, initially backed by a six-speed automatic and upgraded to a nine-speed ZF automatic for 2016. A major 2017 refresh introduced Acura's Diamond Pentagon grille and launched the MDX Sport Hybrid SH-AWD, combining a 3.0-liter V6 with three electric motors and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission for a total output of 321 horsepower. A comprehensive list of standard features combined with proven powertrain durability helped secure a strong market presence in its segment.
