Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Surpasses 911 Turbo S on Brazil's Interlagos Circuit
Setting a New Benchmark at Interlagos
Porsche aimed to create the pinnacle of performance in electric vehicles with the Taycan Turbo GT. Demonstrating its exceptional capabilities, the vehicle secured a new lap record just over a month ago. Felipe Nasr, a Porsche factory driver, completed a lap at the Brazil-based Interlagos circuit in an impressive 1:42.1, establishing a milestone for production EVs.
Comparative Performance Metrics
To put this achievement into perspective, the fastest conventional gasoline-powered car on the Interlagos track is the 911 GT2 RS, enhanced with a Manthey Racing handling package, which recorded a lap time of 1:36.967 late last year. Additionally, Porsche highlights that a standard 911 Turbo S achieved a lap time of 1:43.087, while the previous Taycan Turbo S completed the circuit in 1:49.8 back in 2022. Considering the Taycan Turbo GT's substantial weight of nearly 5,000 pounds, these lap times are notably remarkable.
Felipe Nasr's Racing Prowess
The expertise of Felipe Nasr undeniably contributes to these outstanding results. Just a week prior, Nasr played a crucial role in Porsche's victory at the Daytona 24 Hours, driving the 963 GTP car to an overall win.
Advanced Features of the Taycan Turbo GT
The Taycan Turbo GT is equipped with a suite of high-performance features. Engaging the right-hand paddle on the steering wheel unleashes 1,019 horsepower for a duration of 10 seconds, enhancing straight-line speed. The vehicle also boasts ultra-grippy Pirelli P-Zero Trofeo RS tires and Porsche's sophisticated Active Ride suspension system, which ensures optimal performance by managing all four tires continuously. The absence of an internal combustion engine allows the raw sounds of the tires under immense stress to be heard clearly. This model is further enhanced with the Weissach Package, which includes a rear wing and the removal of the rear seat to reduce weight.
Additional Lap Records
The Taycan Turbo GT also holds the EV road-car lap record at Laguna Seca and a production four-door record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. With this latest achievement, Porsche is poised to continue expanding its collection of impressive performance records.
