Lexus Unveils 'Climax Edition' for Its V-8 Sports Sedan

Lexus is introducing a distinctive variant of its IS500 sports sedan, aptly named the Climax Edition. While the name might raise eyebrows, it's uncertain whether it's a deliberate play on words or simply a case of playful interpretation.

This special edition marks a nod to the brand's diverse heritage, reminiscent of past models like the Toyota BJ military variant and the uniquely styled Daihatsu Naked kei car. Essentially, the Climax Edition mirrors the IS500 Ultimate Edition but features a right-hand drive configuration tailored for the Japanese market.

Performance and Design Enhancements

Despite its longstanding presence, the Climax Edition retains its robust 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine, delivering an impressive 472 horsepower and 395 lb-ft of torque. The power is efficiently managed through an eight-speed automatic transmission, propelling the vehicle to the rear wheels.

The exterior boasts front Brembo brakes with six-piston calipers and 380-mm ventilated discs, ensuring top-tier stopping performance. Complementing this are the 19-inch forged BBS wheels finished in matte black, all wrapped in the sophisticated Neutrino Gray paint—a likely final tribute to this model line.

Inside, the Climax Edition offers a sporty red and black interior palette, echoing its American counterpart. Highlights include a dimpled leather steering wheel and shift knob, adorned with laser-etched red details on the analog clock. Unique scuff plates on the front doors add a distinct touch, emphasizing the edition's unique branding.

Exclusivity and Availability

Lexus is limiting the release to just 500 units within Japan, each priced at approximately 9,500,000 yen ($65,300). Interested buyers can expect these exclusive models to hit the market starting in August.
